Watch out Telluride: Oprah Winfrey has landed. While she has divested the majority of her Chicago real estate assets, including most recently a 9,625 square foot Water Tower Place condo, the media mogul just shelled out $13,750,000 for an extravagant 8,706 square foot home in the heart of Colorado ski country.
The off-market purchase comes on the heels of a 60-acre land acquisition, where Winfrey is currently overseeing the development of a custom-built mansion. But make no mistake: this ‘temporary’ residence will provide plenty of comfort until the project is completed.
Fashioned after a historic mining tunnel (complete with water mists, sound effects, and a steel rail car), the property features a 56-foot long wine cellar capable of stowing up to 1,600 bottles.
A private four-person cable car, made to look like an old-fashioned mining car, connects directly to the Sundance ski run.
Six (yes…six) private balconies scattered throughout the home ensures every guest is just steps from picturesque views of the mountainous surroundings and the San Sophia Range.
The interior of the home is equally stunning, with everything one expects from an A-list celebrity: a fully equipped exercise room, professional kitchen, spa-quality bathrooms, and a parlor room complete with a high-end wet bar.
If this is Winfrey’s idea of a temporary residence – one can only dream of what’s in store for her next abode…
