7 Home Design Trends that Dominated 2017

As the year draws to a close, let’s take a look at major trends that dominated home design in 2017 — as seen in real homes across Chicago.

See 7 design trends that were most popular in 2017…

Quartz

Move over marble and granite. Homeowners are opting for quartz more than ever. This Lakeview kitchen blends quartz countertops nicely with white cabinetry and a marble backsplash.

Grey

While white is still very much “in,” we saw an increasing use of grey hues in home interiors — from kitchen cabinetry to bathroom tilework. This Southport Corridor kitchen proves grey is an increasingly popular (and attractive) choice for homeowners.

Drama

Rich texture and deep color comprised a top trend of “drama” this year, often seen in small spaces — like the office, foyer entryway, and powder room. This masculine charcoal office in Barrington is a favorite of ours.

Farmhouse

Shabby chic, farmhouse style remained a strong trend throughout 2017, popularized by HGTV Fixer Upper. We love this wood paralleled, plush and cozy bedroom in Highland Park.

Brass

Gold accents appeared in several ways in 2017, like brass hardware, light fixtures, and home decor. This Hinsdale home features a trendy gilded mix of all.

Minimalist

Sleek, sophisticated and clean lines dominated home trends this year, from kitchen to bath design. This Lincoln Park kitchen is a minimalist dream.

Functionality

From eat-in kitchens and butler pantries, to mudrooms and outdoor living spaces, the functionality seen in 2017 proves a house should work for its homeowner. This Western Springs mudroom features a desk and lots of organized storage, perfectly suited for modern living.
