It’s important to support local, “brick and mortar” shops and businesses because a healthy downtown creates a sense of pride and fosters a stable, ever-improving community. For every $100 spent in Wheaton’s locally-owned independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures. This cycle results in a stronger community for its members to enjoy. When you shop online or at chain retailers, nothing goes into your community.

The Downtown Wheaton Association invites you to come out and enjoy our community’s shops, services, restaurants and events today!

About DWA

The Downtown Wheaton Association (DWA) plays a vital role in the success of downtown Wheaton. By supporting the downtown business community, hosting a variety of events, encouraging new business development and raising consumer awareness, the DWA helps to ensure that downtown Wheaton continues to grow and improve. An independent organization, we partner with the City of Wheaton and the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce.

The DWA hosts several signature events throughout the year. These help reinforce a sense of community and bring people together to enjoy great food, the beautiful downtown Wheaton environment and the company of good friends. These events include:

  • The French Market
  • The Chili Cookoff
  • Vintage Rides
  • Boo-palooza- Downtown Wheaton Trick-or-Treat
  • A Dickens of a Christmas
  • Wheaton Wedding Walk
  • Wheaton’s Wine and Cultural Arts Festival
  • And more

Events and other DWA efforts—such as our Shoppers’ Club, the shop and business directory on this website and a comprehensive marketing strategy—help to raise consumer awareness of all the wonderful shops, restaurants and services downtown Wheaton has to offer. We encourage the community to support our local businesses.

In addition, we assist local businesses in their marketing efforts and support business owners who seek to open a new retail shop or service business in downtown Wheaton. Together, loyal patrons, current business owners and new businesses help make downtown Wheaton the community destination is today.
