City safety is a concern when looking to rent or buy. If you have a family, it’s probably a make or break in your decision in to moving to that area. Luckily, these cities have locals that feel the safest in their communities.

A survey was taken by Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index throughout 2014 and it consisted of people from the 100 largest cities in the United States. Researchers then asked locals around the country to rate the statement “You always feel safe and secure.”

Below are the 20 cities where community locals feel the safest:

1. Des Moines-West Des Moines, Iowa
2. Raleigh, North Carolina
3. Boise, Idaho
4. Honolulu, Hawaii
5. Provo-Orem, Utah
6. Winston-Salem, North Carolina
7. Ogden-Clearfield, Utah
8. Colorado Springs, Colorado
9. Omaha-Council Bluffs, Nebraska and Iowa
10. Austin-Round Rock, Texas
11. Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, Minnesota and Wisconsin

18. Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford, Connecticut
19. San Diego-Carlsbad, California (tie)

Pretty interesting! The city that takes the top spot deserves being number 1. Almost 86 percent of the residents said that they “always feel safe and secure.”

Have you been to any of these cities? Being from Chicago, did you feel any safer being there? We’d love to hear!
