Chicago’s “most expensive” real estate game just got a new record breaker. Hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin paid $58.5 million for the top four floors of a Gold Coast condo building, located at 9 W. Walton. It’s the highest-priced home sale ever in the Chicago area, surpassing all other record sales by tens of millions of dollars, according to Chicago Tribune.
Griffin, founder of Citadel, purchased levels 35 through 38 at 9 W. Walton in four separate transactions, according to the Cook County Recorder of Deeds. And that purchase amount is just for raw space. By the time Griffin finishes the living space, he will have spent an upwards of $80 million, projected by Crain’s.
Griffin, 49, is the wealthiest person in Illinois with a worth of about $8.7 billion. He currently ranks No. 52 on the latest Forbes 400 list.
