T.J. Maxx, BlueMercury to takeover Clark and Diversey with New Retail Development

THIS JUST IN—T.J. Maxx and Bluemercury to move into the vacancy at Clark and Diversey. You may have known it as the Vitamin Shoppe, Starbucks, or the Coconuts video store of the 90’s and early 2000’s, but as of now, the building will be home to discount clothing store T.J. Maxx, leasing 4,800 square feet of the ground floor and the entire 15,800-square-foot second floor.

The current structure at the intersection of Clark Street and Diversey Parkway is noticeably prepared for demolition as retail real estate investor Acadia Realty Trust is set to build a fully-renovated retail building

At first glance, the new building offers a reminiscent, yet modern look to a typically vintage Clark Street. Still, it stays true to a “two-story max” theme that keeps Clark Street distinct from the rest of the rising city.

While T.J. Maxx plans to takeover the second floor, Bluemercury, a cosmetic company and spa chain, will lease about 2,100 square feet on the ground floor, and share the remaining spaces with other tenants.

Demolition is set to last over the next couple of months and, according to an article by the Chicago Tribune, Acadia executive Christopher Conlon slates the building is set for completion sometime in 2018.

As far as the future of the longstanding T.J. Maxx merely blocks away (located above the now neighborhood Walmart), no word has been given.
