OLD TOWN — The opening of Pop’s Italian Beef & Sausage is so close, you can almost smell the french fries simmering in the back down Wells Street, and a little green pepper and giardiniera on that soggy bread we so love. The South suburban and far South Side fast-food chain has arrived to the North Pole and plans to open its doors this August.

While some city dweller’s may not of heard of it before, Pop’s started in 1980, Palos Heights, and since then, it’s become a fast food staple in the Chicagoland community. It has also been featured on ABC7’s “Hungry Hound” for top Italian Beef spots back in 2015. Now, Pop’s is looking to take in a whole new crowd in Old Town in the building formerly housing the “My Fit Food’s” at 157 W. North Avenue.

With competitor’s like Sammy’s Red Hots, Dog House Grill, and McDonald’s, (the latter said to be comparable in taste of fries) we wonder if the special menu Pop’s has cooking up should beat the rest.

Check out the video above for a little preview of this Chicago gem.
