Million Dollar Kitchens in Chicago

What does a half-million dollars buy in Chicago?

According to Conlon Real Estate:

If that’s your ceiling, there’s no reason to fear that you’re priced out of the market.

At that threshold, there’s a diverse selection of properties to choose from, even in desirable neighborhoods. Mainly, we’re talking condos here. At that price, most units are modern and spacious and come with desirable amenities such as high-end appliances, fireplaces, large decks, walk-in closets and even a sauna.

The main difference is that in some neighborhoods your dollar will stretch farther, meaning you can afford a larger unit, perhaps a duplex or one with three-bedrooms versus two, if you’re willing to sacrifice a little on location.

A recent search of CONLON/Christie’s International Real Estate listings showed dozens of city properties, priced at a half-million dollars or less.

Here are a few highlights:

905 W. Belle Plaine Ave., #1E: Priced at $499,000, this spacious duplex in Buena Park is loaded with upgrades. There are three bedrooms, plus an additional office/den, and two full bathrooms. The kitchen in this 2,500-square-foot unit is very chic. We’re talking granite countertops, wood cabinets, and stainless steel appliances. The lower-level is the highlight. It has a bar, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a sauna. The listing agent is Ken Dooley.

900 N. Kingsbury St., #1049: This 1,347-square-foot unit is one of 292 loft-style residences on floors six through 12 of the former Montgomery Ward warehouse. It’s smaller than what you get in Buena Park, for example, but the location is prime. The building is right along the Chicago River. There are two bedrooms, plus a den, and two bathrooms. A private 200-foot terrace overlooks a private courtyard. The asking price is $489,000, not including parking. The listing agent is Ryan Preuett.

1329 W. Walton St., #3: This professionally decorated 1,600-square-foot duplex in Noble Square has two bedrooms, hardwood floors and a lofted ceiling in the open kitchen/living room. Both bathrooms are spa-caliber with steam showers and Jacuzzi tubs. The rooftop deck is a draw, with sweeping views of downtown. The price is $499,000 and includes garage parking. The listing agent is Darragh Landry.
